Blackboard Instructor App


    Blackboard Instructor is a free mobile and tablet-optimized app for iOS and Android. This app gives Mason faculty access to their Blackboard course content on a variety of mobile devices such as the iPhone®, iPad®, Android™, and Android™ Tablets. The first release of Blackboard Instructor includes the ability to access courses, view content and tests, participate in discussions, create announcements, and join Collaborate sessions.

    Getting Started with Blackboard Instructor

    1. Install the free app. Search for "Blackboard Instructor" from your device's app store, or download using the links below:

      Download on your Apple® device
      Download on your Android™ device

    2. Once the app is installed and open on your device, search for 'George Mason University'.

      Note: If you have previously logged into the app, you may need to delete 'George Mason University' from the text field and then search for it again in order to use the new login method. 

    3. Tap the Web Login button and then select the green Mason Bb Login button that appears on the following screen.

    4. Sign in with your Mason Credentials.

    Course Management  

    View a list of all courses for available terms and get a summary of each course. Relevant features are categorized and grouped on the Course Overview so that instructors can quickly and easily access due dates, announcements, course content, and discussions.

    View course discussion boards and respond to students on the go. Create threads within existing discussions to further the conversation and engage students.

    Announcements

    Create, review, and send out announcements to students. Students will be alerted with a notification in the Blackboard app Activity Stream.

    Content and Assessment Preview

    Review course content and assessments created in Blackboard Learn on mobile to ensure content is accurate and mobile-friendly.

    Collaborate

    The Blackboard app includes Blackboard Collaborate with the Ultra experience—a synchronous web conferencing solution for high-quality virtual classes and meetings. Instructors can share files and video while interacting with the class. You don't have to install anything extra to join a session.

     

    When should I use a computer to access my course?

    While the app offers a native environment to access your course content, some features can be limited depending on the mobile device being used. The mobile app is not a replacement for a computer browser but it is a way to access and view your course content on the go. 

    The following features will not function properly and should only be used in a full browser on a computer.

    Students will not be able to:

    • participate in groups, blogs, and journals 
    • access organizations 
    • take some tests, quizzes or surveys 
    • format text or upload files in discussions  

    Faculty will not be able to: 

    • access organizations 
    • create or view groups, blogs, and journals 
    • upload course content 
    • create or modify Course Tools  
    • make Grade Center changes   
    • format text or upload files in discussions
